Over the years the core of the crystalline lens becomes more rigid and the ciliary muscle responsible for accommodation loses its elasticity. The result is presbyopia or eyestrain, which prevents a proper view of nearby objects.
Presbyopia surgery improves the ability to see close without being dependent on glasses or contact lenses and is an ambulatory surgery in which topical anesthesia is applied, the discomfort is minimized and the visual recovery is immediate.
The procedure involves the implantation of a multifocal lens which replaces the crystalline lens that is specifically designed to make the correction needed for the various distances, avoiding the use of glasses and reaching an absolute correction in near, intermediate, and far vision. Along with the eyestrain, the myopia or hyperopia are also corrected, by adjusting the lens implant, so that it fits the correction exact needs of the patient.
It is also possible to combine presbyopia and cataract surgeries, being necessary only that the lens implant is doubly appropriate, to resolve on time the crystalline opacity and the accommodation to near vision.
