The da Vinci® Surgical System uses 3-D technology to give the surgeon a more accurate view of the operative area. The surgeon views the area on a monitor with high-resolution images relayed through a high-definition 3-D camera, then performs the surgery with hand movements that are translated from wristed controls to robotic instruments that precisely carry out the doctor's orders. The da Vinci® System can only work by direct input by the bariatric surgeon, and cannot be programmed to make its own decisions.

In normal digestion, food passes through the stomach and enters the small intestine, where most of the nutrients and calories are absorbed. It then passes into the large intestine (colon), and the remaining waste is eventually excreted. In a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the stomach is made smaller by creating a small pouch at the top of the stomach with surgical staples. The smaller stomach is connected directly to the middle portion of the small intestine (jejunum).

Costs include transportation (airport pick up / drop), 3 days of hospitalization in a private room, 3 hours of surgery at the Specialized Surgical Unit, general anesthesia, surgical team fees, consumables, nursing care. Accurate estimates for care shall be provided when the patient has been thoroughly examined by the physician after admission.
